2011 Barkley Forum Complete Results: Taft Wins Second National Points Race Tournament of the Year; Donahue Second

Extemp Central has acquired the Barkley Forum’s cume sheet and can now present a more complete listing of results from last weekend’s tournament.  As announced last night, Isabelle Taft of Henry W. Grady High School in Georgia was the winner.  Taft is the first female extemper to win the Barkley Forum since 2005, when Courtney Otto of Kentucky Country Day School in Kentucky was the winner.  She is also the first sophomore extemper to win the tournament.  This is Taft’s second national circuit victory of the season, as she won the Wake Forest National Early Bird last semester.  Nathaniel Donahue of Durham Academy, who finished second to Taft at Wake Forest earlier in the season, placed second behind her again, but will increase his lead in the National Points Race due to his fifth second place finish at a National Points Race tournament this year.  Jared Odessky of Nova High School in Florida took third.

Since the Barkley Forum is a TOC qualifying tournament, all of the above extempers earned TOC bids.  All of the extempers who were in the final round and semi-final round earned National Points Race points and the new National Points Race standings will be released on Friday.
