Major Champion Interview with Lily Nellans (Part One)

LilyLily Nellans competed for Des Moines Roosevelt High School In Iowa and holds the all-time record for major championship wins. She is the three-time winner of the MBA Extemp Round Robin and the Extemp Tournament of Champions (TOC). During her career she also won the NCFL National Championship and was a three-time finalist at the NSDA National Tournament. She’s a four time Iowa State Champion, won Extemp Central’s 2012 National Points Race, and she notched victories at Wake Forest, St.Marks, Florida Blue Key, The Glenbrooks, GMU Patriot Games, The Schwan’s Speech Spectacular and Harvard. She will be studying International Affairs at Western Kentucky University, where she will continue her extemp career.

Lily agreed to participate in a two part interview with Extemp Central to give her thoughts on extemporaneous speaking, her career, and the participation of women in high school extemp.

NFL Champion Interview Ashesh Rambachan (Part Two)

AsheshAshesh Rambachan competed for Eastview High School (MN) and was the 2012 NFL National Champion in International Extemporaneous Speaking.  Ashesh was also the runner-up in International Extemporaneous Speaking at the 2011 and 2013 NFL national tournaments and was a semi-finalist in that category his freshman year.  In fact, since the inception of the United States Extemp/International Extemp category split, no extemper has had a better three year record at the NFL National Tournament than Rambachan.  Ashesh is also the only extemper in the history of the NFL National Tournament to win consecutive final round national championships in the same extemporaneous speaking category (2012 & 2013).  Ashesh was the runner-up at the 2012 NCFL Grand National Tournament and was a two-time Minnesota state champion in extemporaneous speaking (2012 & 2013).  Ashesh agreed to sit down with Extemp Central for a two part interview to share his thoughts on extemporaneous speaking, reflect on his career, and provide advice to future extemporaneous speakers.  Part one of the interview can be found here.

In addition, he was an extemp finalist at Yale, Bronx, Villiger, and a champion at the Columbia invitational. He was a competitor at the Montgomery Bell Academy Round Robin and New York Sate Champion in 2013. Extemp Roundtable: 2011 NFL National Champions Share Their Views on the Tournament (Part 2)

Extemp Roundtable: 2011 NFL National Champions Share Their Views on the Tournament (Part 1)

Tyler is a three-time Indiana state champion, winning the state’s Public Forum title in 2008, Impromptu title in 2009, and United States extemp title last year. This fall, Tyler will attend Loyola University in Chicago. He sat down for an interview with Extemp Central to discuss his experiences in extemporaneous speaking and provide advice for up and coming competitors.

When extempers attend national circuit events there are a few recognizable figures that they will run into.  Dr. Steve Moss is one of those recognizable figures.  For the last decade he has been a fixture on the national circuit and he regularly judges marquee events like the Montgomery Bell Extemp Round Robin and the Extemporaneous Speaking Tournament of Champions.  Dr. Moss agreed to sit down for an interview with Extemp Central to discuss his involvement with forensics and give extempers some insight into his judging philosophy.  This is the second part of a two part interview piece.
