St. Mark’s Heart of Texas Invitational: Huff Completes First Sweep Since 2005

This weekend at the St. Mark’s Heart of Texas Invitational, Dillon Huff, who finished third in last year’s Extemp Central Nationalst. marks Points Race, swept the International and United States extemp tournaments. This is the first time this has been done since Alex Stephenson accomplished the feat in 2005. The pair of victories give Huff three victories in the tournament over the last two years, as he won the International extemp portion of the tournament last year as well.

Here are the results from the St. Mark’s Heart of Texas Invitiational.  Thanks to Adam Johnson, we are able to give you the results of the final rounds of International and United States extemp as well as the semi-finalists in each category.

Yale Invitational: Final Extemp Results

yaleThanks to Stacey Chen and Adam Johnson, Extemp Central has been able to compile a list of the final placings for the Yale University Invitational that was held last week in New Haven, Connecticut.

Champion: Aaron Lutkowitz (Montgomery Bell Academy, Tennessee)
2nd: Nabeel Zewail (San Marino High School, California)
3rd: Nathaniel Donahue (Durham Academy, North Carolina)
4th: Bari Saltman (Berkeley Carroll School, New York)
5th: Jared Odessky (Nova High School, Florida)
6th: Zohaib Chida (Scarsdale High School, New York)

The final was a nice mix of geographic representation and congratulations to all who made it that far. The National Points Race will be updated shortly to reflect the Yale results.

Yale Invitational: Lutkowitz Avenges Wake and Takes Championship

According to reports from Yale, Aaron Lutkowitz of Montgomery Bell Academy in Nashville, Tennessee is the winner ofyale this year’s Yale Invitiational tournament.  This avenged a disappointing finish at the Wake Forest National Early Bird where Lutkowitz did not break.  It is Lutkowitz’s second major national circuit victory to go with his victory at the George Mason University Patriot Games tournament last year.  His victory will earn him 70 points in the Extemp Central National Points Race and likely vault he and Montgomery Bell Academy into the top spot in the rankings.

Nabeel Zewail of San Marino High School in California took second place and Nathaniel Donahue of Durham Academy in North Carolina took third. 

When full results come in, Extemp Central will post them and update the National Points Race.

Wake Forest Live Update: Martin Captures One for the Ladies; Jackson High School (OH) Gets Two in the Top Four

wakeThe first national circuit tournament of the year at the Wake Forest National Early Bird has concluded and saw Emily Martin of Boone County High School in Kentucky, the lone female extemper in the final round, capture the championship.  Meanwhile, Jackson High School in Ohio had a strong showing, with two extempers in the final round, both of which placed within the top four. Matt Meeks appearance in the final round also gave the state of Ohio, who had a string of strong finishes at the end of last season, half of the finals field.

The final round topic area was U.S. foreign policy.

As was stated earlier in the day, all of the extempers above have earned the first points of the year for the Extemp Central National Points Race. The current standings will be posted on the site by the end of the week so keep checking in for details.

Extemp TOC Results: Chen Notches Third Victory of the Season

The round was judged by Steve Moss, Michael Garson, Jason Warren, Adam Johnson, Ryan Murphy, Logan Scisco, and Jon Carter. There was a tie between Huff and Arons for 2nd place that was broken on judges preference. Triad questions were used for the final round.

Live from the MBA Round Robin: Final Results

The 2009 Montgomery Bell Extemp Round Robin has concluded and herembalive are the final results:

It took a cumulative score of 63 across ten rounds to make the Exhibition Round (the top five). The winner of the Exhibition Round was Dillon Huff.

It is interesting to also note that in rounds that were labeled as IX topic areas, Matt Arons beat the field, but in US Extemp topics Stacey Chen was the best.
