This R&D provides resources on Australian and Indonesian relations. Both countries are prominent actors in Southeast Asia, yet their relations are strained by asylum seekers that use Indonesia as a base to migrate to Australia. Australia has recently taken to sending boats of asylum seekers back to Indonesia, a move criticized by the United Nations. Indonesia asserts that Australia’s asylum policy violates its national sovereignty.
