This R&D covers Pope Francis. Pope Francis, originally known as Jorge Mario Bergoglio, became the 266th Pope of the Catholic Church a year ago today. He is the first pope to be elected from the Americas. He has attempted to direct the Church’s energies towards socioeconomic inequalities in the world. Some papal observers see him as more moderate than his predecessor, Benedict XVI.
