This R&D covers the Mexican economy. The Mexican economy is Latin America’s second largest economy, but there are signs that its economic growth rate is slowing. President Enrique Nieto has proposed several reforms to make the Mexican economy more efficient and he secured the privatization of Pemex, the state-owned oil company, in December. The United States has an interest in ensuring that the Mexican economy is successful, as the lack of economic prospects in Mexico has caused an influx of illegal immigrants from the country for the last several decades.
