This R&D provides resources on Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton’s health.  Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump raised questions about Clinton’s health throughout the summer and these comments got more attention after Clinton experienced weakness and had to be helped into her vehicle after leaving a September 11 memorial service early on Saturday.  Clinton’s doctors later announced that she had pneumonia, prompting some analysts to question how this revelation could affect the 2016 campaign, especially if it limits Clinton’s future appearances on the campaign trail.

This R&D provides resources on a Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential bid.  Clinton declared that she was an official candidate via a YouTube video on Sunday, saying that she would be a champion for the interests of everyday Americans.  Clinton has spent this week in Iowa seeking to rally voters, seeking to avoid the mistakes she made in 2008 when then-Senator Barack Obama pulled off an upset and used the momentum gained there to secure the Democratic nomination.  If elected, Clinton would be the first female president in American history.

For the last fourteen years political pundits have debated whether Hillary Clinton will become America’s first female president.  When her husband Bill ended his presidency in 2001, Hillary became New York’s junior senator.  In 2004, she thought of running for the Democratic presidential nomination, but opted against it.  In 2008, she decided to run for the presidency but was defeated by Barack Obama in the closest primary race since 1976.  Following the 2008 presidential election Clinton became President Obama’s Secretary of State.  She left that position in 2013 and observers believe she has been using her time away from Washington to solicit support for another presidential bid.

Instead of focusing on Secretary Clinton’s background, this topic brief will breakdown three questions that extempers will receive about her during the 2014-2015 season:  Will Clinton choose to run for the presidency in 2016?  Can she win the Democratic nomination if she chooses to run?  And most importantly, can she win a general election and become America’s first female president?

Here is today’s premium R&D to accompany today’s premium topic brief on Hillary Clinton in 2016.

Topic Brief: Hillary’s Clinton’s Asia Tour

Ever since she joined Barack Obama’s cabinet as Secretary of State, insiders across the political spectrum have weighed in about Hillary Clinton’s intentions in taking the job.  Was she coming on board to overshadow the new president?  Was she going to try to use the position to increase her political clout and make another run at the White House in 2016, or potentially 2012 if Obama failed?  Or was she going into the job in order to provide a valuable supplement to the Obama team in the foreign arena?

Hillary’s trip of Asia had made clear that it may be too early to answer those questions.  What is apparent is that the Obama administration will use the State Department to communicate a different message of how America is going to treat its allies and its enemies.  Hillary’s trip, which spanned four countries, Japan, South Korea, Indonesia, and China, also communicated stances the administration had on the issues of global climate change, global economic recovery, and human rights.

This topic brief will break down Hillary Clinton’s trip abroad by giving some background on what was accomplished during the tour, criticisms of the tour, and some ramifications it will have for future American policymaking.
