2022-2023 Extemp Central National Points Race: New Standings After the National Catholic Forensic League (NCFL) Grand National Tournament!

New standings for the 2022-2023 Extemp Central National Points Race have been released!  These results reflect the results of the National Catholic Forensic League (NCFL) Grand National Tournament.  You can find them by clicking on the “National Points Race” tab at the top of the page or by clicking here.

The final National Points Race event takes place this weekend at the National Speech and Debate Association (NSDA) National Tournament in Phoenix/Mesa, Arizona.  NSDA Nationals is the only first tier event in the competition.  The extemporaneous speaking category with the most competitors in the top 25 will receive a 50 point bonus for its general competition and a 10 point bonus for its final round winner.

The next National Points Race event takes place over Memorial Day weekend when the National Catholic Forensic League (NCFL) hosts its national tournament.  That competition will be a second tier event, awarding 150 points to the national champion and providing points for all competitors that reach the octa-final round.

2022-2023 Extemp Central National Points Race: New Standings After Stanford, Harvard, the California Invitational, and Eastview!

New standings for the 2022-2023 Extemp Central National Points Race have been released!  These results reflect the results of February’s tournaments, including the Stanford Invitational, the Harvard National Forensics Tournament, the California Invitational, and the Star Tribune Eastview Lightning Classic.  You can find them by clicking on the “National Points Race” tab at the top of the page or by clicking here.

The next National Points Race event takes place late next month when the University of Kentucky hosts its annual Tournament of Champions (TOC).  Unlike last year, the UK TOC is a third tier event that will be 100 points in the National Points Race.

2022-2023 Extemp Central National Points Race: New Standings After the Barkley Forum!

New standings for the 2022-2023 Extemp Central National Points Race have been released!  These results reflect the results of the Barkley Forum.  You can find them by clicking on the “National Points Race” tab at the top of the page or by clicking here.

The next major National Points Race competition will take place in a virtual environment this weekend when Stanford hosts its annual invitational tournament.  The event is a fifth tier competition, so all extempers that place in the top six will receive points.  Since Stanford allows extempers to double enter in International and United States Extemp, an extemper’s best finish will count toward the National Points Race.

New standings for the 2022-2023 Extemp Central National Points Race have been released!  These results reflect the results of the Montgomery Bell Academy Extemp Round Robin, Sunvitational, and James Logan MLK Invitational.  You can find them by clicking on the “National Points Race” tab at the top of the page or by clicking here.

The next major National Points Race competition will take place next weekend in Atlanta, Georgia when Emory University hosts the 68th annual Barkley Forum.  This will be a fourth tier event, awarding points to all extempers that reach the semi-final round.  The winner will receive 70 points.

2022-2023 Extemp Central National Points Race: New Standings After George Mason & the University of Texas!

New standings for the 2022-2023 Extemp Central National Points Race have been released!  These results reflect the outcomes of the George Mason University Patriot Games and the University of Texas-Austin Longhorn Classic.  You can find them by clicking on the “National Points Race” tab at the top of the page or by clicking here.

This weekend features two National Points Race competitions.  The Montgomery Bell Academy Extemp Round Robin, the first major tournament of the season, is a second tier event that will award 150 points to the winner.  The top six extempers in the sixteen person field will receive points.  13 of the top 25 in the National Points Race will be appearing, so MBA could significantly shakeup the standings.

The other National Points Race event will take place in Florida at the Sunvitational.  That tournament will award 70 points to its winner and all extempers who reach semi-finals will earn National Points Race credit.

New standings for the 2022-2023 Extemp Central National Points Race have been released!  These results reflect the outcomes of the Glenbrooks and Florida Blue Key.  You can find them by clicking on the “National Points Race” tab at the top of the page or by clicking here.

This weekend features dual fourth tier points opportunities as George Mason University hosts its Patriot Games event in Fairfax, Virginia and the University of Texas-Austin holds its Longhorn Classic in Austin, Texas.  All competitors who reach the semi-final round and beyond at those events will earn National Points Race points.  If a competitor breaks to semi-finals in International and United States Extemp at the Longhorn Classic, their best finish will be used for the standings so as to avoid double counting.

Looking at the early entry list for the Longhorn, many competitors in the top 25 will clash there so expect a shakeup in the standings before the end of first semester.  The Longhorn could also have significant implications for bids to this year’s Montgomery Bell Academy (MBA) Extemp Round Robin, which returns to its traditional January slot on the calendar this season.

The next National Points Race competition will be the New York City Invitational, which will take place next weekend.  It will be a fifth tier event that will award points to all finalists and 40 points to the winner.

2022-2023 Extemp Central National Points Race: The Structure of This Year’s Competition

The National Points Race is a season-long competition that seeks to identify the top extempers across a select group of prestigious national circuit events.  Extemp Central recognizes that in some years the top extemper in the nation may not win the National Points Race due to the inability of some competitors to travel extensively.  Still, six national champions (three CFL and three NSDA) are among the seven previous National Points Race winners.

Extemp Central congratulates Daniel Kind of Lake Highland Preparatory School (FL) on his record-breaking season that enabled him to become the 2021-2022 Extemp Central National Points Race Champion!  He will receive a customary glass trophy for his win.

The new standings reflect the results of the National Catholic Forensic League (NCFL) Grand National Tournament.  The winner, Daniel Kind of Lake Highland Preparatory (FL), earned 150 points and clinched this year’s competition.

The next National Points Race event will take place this weekend in Louisville, Kentucky when the National Speech and Debate Association (NSDA) hosts its national tournament.  The extemp category with the most participants in the top twenty-five of the National Points Race will receive a fifty point weighted bonus.  In addition, the winner of the final round of each extemp category will receive bonus points.  So in total, the winner of the weighted extemp category could receive up to 300 points for winning the tournament and that category’s final round.

The new standings reflect the results of last weekend’s Tournament of Champions of Extemporaneous Speaking, a third tier event that was won by Cameron Roberts of Jack C. Hays High School (TX).

The next National Points Race event will take place at the end of the month when NCFL Nationals take place in Washington, D.C.   This will be the second-to-last National Points Race event of the season and is a second tier event that will award 150 points to the winner.

The new standings reflect the results of last weekend’s University of Kentucky Tournament of Champions (TOC), a fourth tier tournament won by McKinley Paltzik of Phoenix Country Day School (AZ).

The next National Points Race event is currently underway online as Northwestern University plays host to the Extemp TOC, a third tier event in the National Points Race and the season’s second major tournament.

The new standings reflect the results of last weekend’s Montgomery Bell Academy Extemp Round Robin, a second tier tournament that saw McKinley Paltzik of Phoenix Country Day School (AZ) win her third National Points Race event of the season.  Paltzik earned 150 points for her MBA victory.

State tournaments and national qualifiers dominate the calendar until late April, when the National Points Race resumes at the University of Kentucky Tournament of Champions (TOC).  The UK TOC will be a fourth tier event, awarding 70 points to its winner.
